Getting engaged is something most girls dream of their whole lives. Prince Charming getting down on one knee or putting together a big elaborate plan to ask you to spend the rest of your life with him. We see it on a daily basis through social media. Proposals going viral because they are done in a unique way. Well in our case it didn’t go exactly like that but it fits our corky relationship. In truth for some we don’t need a grand gesture but rather something that fits the way the couple’s life together.

That’s how our proposal story goes. Nothing grand, nothing out of the ordinary because we tend to not be overly romantic. We took our first full vacation outside of New England last December to Aruba to get away before the holiday’s kicked off. We had contemplated for a while about getting engaged but my fiance said he could never quite find the right ring. After a few days of relaxing on the beach and swimming, we walked to the local shopping area to see what the island had to offer. A few cigar shops, jewelry stores and souvenir stores were some of the places we visited. One jewelry store in particular caught my fiance’s eye because of the watches they had available (he’s a watch lover, rather than shoes, he collects watches). While he was looking and trying on different watches I looked through all of the other jewelry cases. I tried on various bracelets and rings and when I tried on a particular ring I just didn’t want to take off. It was stunning, like something I had never seen at a store back in the states. Little did I know he was behind me telling the sales women he’d be back to get it.

Later that day he decided that he was going to go back and purchase a watch he really like when we were there and luckily for him I didn’t feel like walking back so I hung out and relaxed in our room. We had decided to try out the fanciest restaurant that the resort had that night so I decided to I’d take the extra time to get ready. Once he got back and got ready, I was standing out on the balcony watching the sun start to set and I could hear him rummaging through the night stand in our room. As he walked out to the balcony to meet me I still remember hearing him say, “I think you need something sparkly to wear with that dress.” Before I could completely comprehend what he had said he put the ring box in front of me and asked “so you wanna?” We both laughed as I probably looked shocked that he managed to pull it off but it worked.

There was no down on one knee, we joked he wouldn’t be able to get back up if he did (he has a bad knee) and it still was perfect. We headed out to dinner and by the time we sat down and I looked at the ring and him I just started to cry. In the middle of the open air dinning space. I didn’t need an elaborate proposal, all I knew is I was some where special with the guy I couldn’t wait to spend my life with.

This blog will be my way to help share what’s going on in our wedding planning. Hopefully hear about how other’s are doing in their planning or how they enjoyed their wedding day details.
